About Me
Painting and drawing have been compulsive activities for me since I was a child. I enjoy looking at and analysing the world around me and expressing what I feel about it on paper or canvas. From the first stab of a loaded brush on canvas, or the first sweep of charcoal or graphite on paper, I begin to connect with the subject. I work from observation and my subject matter is broad. Landscape, portrait, still life; each genre presents an opportunity for me to reach a deeper understanding of the subject and hopefully reveal something that an audience can connect with.
In 2004, I resigned from my career in finance to devote myself completely to art. I studied full time at the Heatherley School of Fine Art, a leading independent art school, succesfully completing a diploma in portraiture (with a portfolio that was highly commended by the Royal Society of Portrait Painters) and a one year post diploma portraiture course. I now work full time from a studio in South East London. On this website you will find a small selection of my work, which I hope you enjoy. Please contact me if any of these paintings or drawings are of interest to you.
You can find further examples of my work on my Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/davidweekesart.
